Classic League
Brunswick United's Classic League level of play represents the pinnacle of club competition. Guided by the state office of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA), this program provides ambitious players with a highly competitive structure that rewards growth, commitment, and performance.
Structure & Format
Classic teams compete in a tiered division system depending on age and competitive level. In the younger age groups (U11–U12), teams are placed into divisions to match developmental level; older teams (U13+) may be eligible for Premier divisions based on promotion/relegation rules. Over the course of the Classic season, teams play a series of 8–10 league matches (or more, depending on the club) per seasonand often attend 2–3 tournaments per season. While league matches may be up to 3 hours away, they generally do not require an overnight stay. Unless they are hosted locally, tournament weekends will generally require overnight stay. Teams will play at least 3 games each tournament weekend: 2 games on Saturday and 1 - 2 on Sunday, depending on standing.
Season & Commitment
Classic is fundamentally a yearlong—or near yearlong—commitment. For many age groups, the program runs across both Fall and Spring seasons (generally from August through May) with breaks in between. For older players, adjustments may be made due to high school seasons (for instance, boys in U15–19 might only play in the spring, or girls in U15–19 in the fall). Practices are typically held 2 to 3 times per week, depending on age level and club resources, and specialized goalkeeper training is offered based on availability.

Tryouts & Player Placement

Players wishing to join the Classic League must undergo semi-annual evaluations or tryouts, typically held in May and November. Following evaluations, players are offered roster spots on age-eligible teams at the level deemed appropriate for their skill and potential. Clubs may also monitor player performance over the year and reassign players or make promotions/relegations between divisions at season’s end.

Competition, Travel & Club Role
Classic teams compete against other NCYSA-registered soccer clubs across North Carolina with travel extending regionally to tournaments or matches in neighboring states. Brunswick United coordinates logistics such as fields, referees, coaching staff, and team travel based on other team (and referee/field) availability. Match and tournament results, schedules, standings, and league documents are posted via the SINC Sports platform. Schedules, updates, and other important information can also be found in your TeamSnap account.
Player Development Emphasis
While results and competition are integral, the Classic program maintains a strong emphasis on development. Coaches are certified, paid professional, and training aims to advance technical skill, tactical understanding, mental resilience, and match awareness. Because playing time is competitive, and Classic League games mandatory, roster decisions reflect both performance and commitment.
